Exploring Sensuality: Embracing the Fullness of Womanhood
As empty nest moms, we often find ourselves at a crossroads, navigating a new chapter of life filled with both excitement and uncertainty. With our children grown and the nest empty, we're faced with the opportunity to rediscover ourselves and embrace the fullness of womanhood in all its glory. And at the heart of this journey lies the concept of sensuality – a profound and often misunderstood aspect of our being that holds the key to our empowerment and fulfillment.
But what exactly is sensuality, and why is it so important for empty nest moms?
At its core, sensuality is about awakening our senses, embracing pleasure, and connecting the mind, body, and spirit in a profound and meaningful way. It's about savoring the richness of life's experiences, from the simple pleasures of a warm cup of tea to the exhilarating rush of a passionate embrace. It's about being fully present in our bodies, attuned to the sights, sounds, tastes, smells, and textures surrounding us, and allowing ourselves to revel in the joy of being alive.
For empty nest moms, embracing sensuality is a powerful act of self-discovery and self-love. It's about reclaiming ownership of our bodies and desires, free from the constraints of societal expectations and cultural norms. It's about honoring our own needs and pleasures, without guilt or shame, and allowing ourselves to fully embrace the sensual, vibrant beings we were always meant to be.
Perhaps most importantly, sensuality is a pathway to self-empowerment and personal growth. By reconnecting with our sensuality, we tap into a wellspring of inner strength and confidence that enables us to navigate life's challenges with grace and resilience. We learn to trust ourselves, honor our intuition, and embrace the full spectrum of our emotions, knowing that we are worthy of love, pleasure, and fulfillment. At a time in our lives when so many midlife moms are struggling to find purpose, value, and our new place in not only our kids’ lives, but our own, this learning can be vital.
Let’s cast aside the shackles of inhibition and self-doubt, and instead, embrace the sensuous, vibrant beings we were always meant to be. Together, let us revel in the beauty of our bodies, the richness of our experiences, and the boundless possibilities that lie ahead.
In the words of Anaïs Nin, "Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage." Let us summon the courage to embrace our sensuality and expand our lives in ways we never thought possible.
This week, we’re going to explore sensuality just a little more than we did last week. I’d like you to choose a sense (taste, touch, smell, sight, sound), and indulge in it. I want you to do what feels good to you, but a few ideas are:
Taste: Let a square of chocolate melt on your tongue and savor the flavors and textures. You can even do double-duty and inhale the fragrance before you put it in your mouth!
Touch: Choose an outfit that feels super yummy to you. Maybe it’s satin or silk, maybe flowy linen, maybe it’s sexy lingerie under a comfy pair of sweats or a pair of granny panties and no bra under a tank top and shorts. Feel the texture against your skin, the way the fabric moves against you, the differences in temperature between where the fabric is and where there’s bare skin, and anything else that you notice.
Smell: Grab a perfume you haven’t worn in a while (or a cologne hubby hasn’t worn, or anything that has a scent) and close your eyes as you inhale the fragrance. See what notes you can identify. Floral, citrus, woody, metallic, leather?
Sight: Go for a walk and savor the sights around you. Look at the trees, the bushes, the people, the houses or other buildings, the animals, the cars, the sky. Take in the sight of everything around you and find the beauty in the things you look at every day.
Sound: Pull up Spotify, YouTube Music, or whatever app you use to listen to music. You can either listen to an old favorite or find something new, but close your eyes and really listen. Go beyond the lyrics and listen to the rhythmic beat of the drums, the licks of the guitar, the melodic notes of the piano, and how they all come together to form this incredibly beautiful piece of music.
Stay tuned for next week's newsletter, where we'll explore more practical ways to reconnect with your sensuality and unleash the fullness of your womanhood. Until then, remember: you are sensual, you are powerful, and you are absolutely worthy of every pleasure and joy that life has to offer.
With love and excitement,
Wendy
